Opinel No 13, The Giant, Stainless Steel Knife with Beechwood Handle and Leather Lanyard
The Giant is not only extremely popular with collectors but it is the knife of choice for many who enjoy eating in the great outdoors and on the terrace for family barbecues. Great for cutting large chunks of meat and hard rounds of cheese.
It has all the qualities of the traditional Opinel pocket knife with the exception that it is as large as a Bowie knife and therefore extremely useful for those bigger jobs. It is also a wonderful conversation piece!

Stainless Steel Sandvik BladeOpinel's Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel blade has been especially heat treated to obtain a good hardness and is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, which makes it possible to obtain a very satisfactory cutting edge without being sensitive to corrosion.
Yatagan BladeThe traditional blade made by Opinel is called the Yatagan, it's shape inspired by a Turkish Sabre with its upturned point. The blade is ground into its unique curved profile which guarantees its robustness and also allows for more efficient re-grinding.
HandleOak is the wood of choice for the fabrication of these Opinel handles and is sourced in France. It is tough yet easy to work and has a very homogenous appearance with colours ranging from yellow to pastel pink interspersed with dark flecks. It is finished with a protective lacquer to help resist moisture and dirt.
Safety Ring Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is a unique feature on all the closing knives from the N° 06 upwards. Cut out of stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safe operation), it is possible to lock the blade in the closed position for safe carrying.
